The American Cancer Society has shed light on this rise, yet claims to be unaware of its specific causes. But I have my own theories.

My Theories:

  1. Poor Food Quality and Highly Processed Food Intake: The modern diet, full of highly processed foods loaded with preservatives, additives, and artificial ingredients, may play a significant role. Deli meats and alcohol, both classified as Type 1 carcinogens, are commonly consumed and contribute to increased colon cancer risk.
  2. Sedentary Lifestyle and Lack of Physical Activity: With the average American spending 93% of their time indoors and leading increasingly sedentary lives, lack of physical activity has become a prevalent issue. Physical inactivity is a known risk factor for colon cancer and can contribute to overall poor gut health.
  3. Impact of Vaping: The rise in vaping, particularly among young adults, poses additional risks to gut health. Vaping has been associated with alterations in gut microbiota, inflammation, and increased susceptibility to various health conditions, including colon cancer.
  4. Stressful Lifestyle and Mental Health Impact: The current era of information overload, fueled by constant exposure to news and social media, has led to heightened stress levels and mental health issues. Chronic stress can disrupt gut health and exacerbate inflammation, potentially contributing to colon cancer development.
  5. Social Isolation: The rise of technology and social media has paradoxically led to increased social isolation for many individuals. Lack of meaningful social connections can negatively impact mental health and gut health, further increasing susceptibility to colon cancer.

  • Avoiding Tobacco and Limiting Alcohol: Steering clear of tobacco products and moderating alcohol consumption can significantly lower the risk of developing colon cancer.
